The most budget-predictable option if you adopt its inbox, with the catch that the useful AI starts at $95, not $45.

True solo cost — low volume~$45/mo — 1 workspace, assumption: Mini at $45/mo covers ~50 resolved conversations within its ~90 included automated conversations
True solo cost — typical volume~$95/mo — 1 workspace, assumption: Essentials at $95/mo is needed for ~200 resolved conversations (Mini's ~90 allowance is too small); Essentials includes ~450, so 200 fits flat with no extra seat cost
No-code score (4/5)

What Crisp (Hugo AI) is — in our words

Crisp is a shared inbox and website chat platform that prices by workspace, not by seat or by resolution, and Hugo is its AI agent layered on top. That flat-price idea is why solos notice it: Essentials gives you ten seats you will never fill, an omnichannel inbox and enough included AI credits for a few hundred automated conversations. Hugo answers across website chat and, on Essentials and above, WhatsApp Business, Instagram, SMS, Messenger and email, learning from your Crisp knowledge base, your website and documents you train it on. You shape it with a no-code builder and workflows, set when it should answer on its own and when a conversation should come straight to you, and every handoff lands in the same inbox where you already work. It can use ecommerce context from Shopify, WooCommerce and similar integrations to personalise answers, but it is not a deep actions platform in the way a Shopify-native agent is — expect strong answering and triage, lighter order manipulation. The catch is tiering. The AI chatbot, knowledge base and omnichannel inbox only really start at Essentials, and the most polished AI extras, ticketing and white labelling wait for the expensive Plus plan. For a solo site doing around two hundred conversations, Essentials is the honest plan, not the $45 headline.

What it does end-to-end

  • Answers across chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram and SMS from your knowledge base on Essentials and above
  • Includes AI credits in the flat workspace price — about 450 automated conversations on Essentials
  • Routes, assigns and triages conversations with a visual workflow builder
  • Syncs Shopify and WooCommerce customer and order context into conversations

What it does NOT do

  • Provide its AI chatbot or knowledge base on the Free plan, and Mini includes only about 90 automated conversations
  • Offer a proper ticketing system below the $295 Plus plan
  • Publish a simple price for AI credits once your included allowance runs out

Pros — our take

  • Most predictable bill here — one workspace price whether you have a quiet or busy week
  • Ten seats on Essentials means collaborators and a part-time helper cost nothing extra
  • Good omnichannel coverage for the price once you are on Essentials

Cons — our take

  • You must buy Essentials at $95 to get the real AI product, despite the $45 entry headline
  • Plus at $295 is a steep jump for ticketing and white labelling a solo rarely needs
  • Cost of extra AI credits beyond the included allowance is not clearly published

Easiest first AI agent for a solo shop — learns your help pages and answers chat and email in minutes

The best starting point for most solo shops, with the catch that you pay for the inbox and the AI as two separate products.
