Pick Fin if answer quality matters more than price, with the catch that a solo pays $227 a month at 200 resolutions before any add-ons.

True solo cost — low volume~$79/mo — 1 seat, assumption: Essential $29/mo billed annually + 50 outcomes × $0.99 = $78.50/mo for ~50 resolved conversations (standalone Fin on another helpdesk would be $49.50/mo at the 50-outcome minimum, plus that helpdesk's own cost)

What Intercom Fin is — in our words

Fin is Intercom's AI agent and the product most rivals compare themselves against. Inside Intercom it answers across live chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS and phone, and as a standalone agent it can sit on top of another helpdesk such as Zendesk, Freshdesk or HubSpot. It learns from your Intercom help centre, public website, PDFs and connected sources, and you can add Procedures — plain-language instructions for multi-step jobs — plus Actions that reach into other systems. For a shop or SaaS solo that can mean looking up an order, checking a subscription, updating a record or starting a return flow rather than just quoting a policy page, though the exact actions depend on what you connect and configure. Tone, answer length and guardrails are configurable, and testing and guidance tools help you see why it answered as it did. Handoff is mature: Fin passes the conversation to you in the inbox with a summary when it cannot resolve, when confidence is low, or when a Procedure calls for a person. The downside for a solo founder is purely economic and structural. The answer quality is excellent, but you pay twice — a seat plan for the inbox and $0.99 for every outcome — and the richer workflow, multibrand and Copilot features push you toward Advanced at $85 a seat.

What it does end-to-end

  • Answers chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS and phone from your help centre and connected sources
  • Takes actions in external systems via Procedures and Actions, such as order and account lookups
  • Works inside Intercom or on top of Zendesk, Freshdesk, HubSpot and Salesforce as a standalone agent
  • Hands off to your inbox with summaries and full context when it cannot resolve

What it does NOT do

  • Come cheap for a solo — seat plus per-outcome pricing stacks quickly at 200 resolutions
  • Include Copilot agent assist in the base price — it is a $29 per agent per month add-on
  • Remove the need to maintain a good help centre — weak source content still limits it

Pros — our take

  • Strongest all-round answer quality, procedures and channel coverage in this list
  • Can genuinely act — lookups and workflow steps — not just recite articles
  • Standalone mode lets you keep a cheaper helpdesk and rent only Fin

Cons — our take

  • Most expensive mainstream option at solo volume once seat and outcomes are added
  • Advanced features and Copilot add-ons create constant upsell pressure
  • A lot of platform for a one-person shop that only needs chat answered

One flat workspace price for chat, email and social — AI credits included, no per-seat shock

The most budget-predictable option if you adopt its inbox, with the catch that the useful AI starts at $95, not $45.

True solo cost (typical)~$95/mo — 1 workspace, assumption: Essentials at $95/mo is needed for ~200 resolved conversations (Mini's ~90 allowance is too small); Essentials includes ~450, so 200 fits flat with no extra seat cost
