What Digits is — in our words

Digits replaces the traditional ledger instead of bolting automation onto one. You connect your banks, cards and payroll, and its agents categorise transactions, reconcile accounts and keep a profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow view current around the clock. For a solo founder that matters because the usual pattern — ignore the books for three weeks, then panic before a tax deadline or a lender asks for statements — largely disappears. You review exceptions and questions inside the product rather than assembling spreadsheets, and you can ask plain-language questions about your own numbers and get an answer drawn from the ledger. Invoicing and bill pay sit in the same place, so money in and money out do not live in separate tools. There is no human bookkeeper included in the base price, which is both the appeal and the catch: you are buying software that does the routine work, plus a directory of partner firms if you later want a person to sign off. It only serves US entities, works in dollars, and supports both cash and accrual books. If your affairs are simple and US-based and you are comfortable reviewing flagged items yourself each week, it is one of the cleanest ways to stop doing bookkeeping by hand without paying service prices.

What it does end-to-end

  • Categorises bank, card and payroll transactions continuously and reconciles accounts
  • Maintains live profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statements
  • Creates and sends invoices and runs bill pay from the same ledger
  • Flags quality issues and exceptions for your review with an audit trail
  • Answers plain-language questions about your financials from your own data

What it does NOT do

  • Does not file your business or personal tax returns itself
  • Does not include a dedicated human bookkeeper or accountant in the base plans
  • Does not serve non-US entities or non-USD books
  • Does not track physical inventory in depth

Integrations we verified: Bank and card connections (12,000+ institutions), Payroll providers including Gusto, Stripe, API and MCP access

Pros — our take

  • Real ledger, not an overlay, so there is no second system to keep in sync
  • Flat pricing with unlimited users is unusually predictable for a solo business
  • Books stay current daily, which makes tax and lender requests far less painful

Cons — our take

  • No human reviewer included — you are still the final check on exceptions
  • US-only and USD-only rules out anyone with foreign entities
  • Pro tier was still listed as coming soon when checked
