What Kick is — in our words

Kick is an AI-native ledger built for owners who do not want to learn bookkeeping software in the first place. Connect your business accounts and it imports transactions as they happen, suggests categories using bank data and rules you can turn into standing instructions, matches receipts to purchases, and keeps a profit and loss and balance sheet ready for you or your accountant. Its pitch to a solo founder is time and tax readiness: transactions are sorted in real time rather than in a monthly batch, transfers between your own accounts are reconciled so income is not double counted, and easily missed deductions such as home office, vehicle and travel costs are surfaced during the year instead of in a scramble in March. A free tier covering a small number of transactions makes it cheap to test on a new business, and paid tiers add unlimited categorisation, reconciliation and, higher up, accrual books and multi-entity support. Human experts review work on paid workflows, but Kick is deliberately software-first: it prepares a year-end package for your CPA and does not file returns itself. If you have one straightforward US business and want the books to largely run themselves at a low headline price, Kick is a strong starting point.

What it does end-to-end

  • Categorises transactions in real time from connected bank, card and payment accounts
  • Matches receipts to transactions and builds reusable categorisation rules
  • Reconciles transfers and accounts so income is not double counted
  • Produces live profit and loss and balance sheet reports
  • Prepares a tax-ready year-end package for your accountant

What it does NOT do

  • Does not file tax returns — filing stays with you or your CPA
  • No dedicated native mobile app was verified on its pricing pages
  • Accrual accounting and multi-entity books require the Plus tier or above
  • Advanced revenue recognition and prepaid workflows sit on the top tier, some in beta

Integrations we verified: Bank and card connections, Payment processors, Receipt capture, MCP/CLI access on Basic and above

Pros — our take

  • Free tier and a $40 entry plan make it the cheapest AI-native ledger here to try
  • Real-time categorisation means no month-end pile-up
  • Clear, published pricing with no sales call required

Cons — our take

  • Does not file taxes, so you still need a CPA at year-end
  • Accrual and multi-entity features are gated to Plus at $100/month
  • Younger company than the incumbent ledgers, with a shorter track record
